APTOLINK™ Announces AptoGraph™ - A Powerful Web-based Graphing Software That Uses GPS Data And MET Values To Calculate Calorie B

Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET) combined with GPS data provides an accurate calorie burn estimation for a given sports activity

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) January 7, 2010 -- AptoLink™, a company that creates innovative consumer electronics and data communication products, announced today AptoGraph - a powerful Web-based graphing tool that takes GPS data and an array of MET values for a specific activity and calculates the athlete’s calorie burn over the route traveled. Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET), or simply Metabolic Equivalent, is a physiological concept expressing the energy cost of physical activities as multiples of Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR).

AptoGraph enables the user to upload their continuous (or logged) GPS data in a .TXT file format for plotting. It provides statistics on the captured data that include: duration of activity, UTC time and date, min/max/average values for speed and altitude, and it provide graphs of altitude and speed versus time and distance. In addition, AptoGraph uses Google Maps and Google Earth as a backdrop to display the athlete’s route for an excellent user experience that can be shared with friends, family and sports enthusiasts.

AptoGraph can plot GPS data that was captured from AptoLink’s highly successful Datatap – a mobile application that collects GPS data in continuous and point-location formats. Or it can use GPS data captured from other devices, such as Garmin and Magellan, or from any other 3rd-party software that runs on a PC or mobile device and provides a NMEA (National Marine Electronic Association) format output.

"Sports enthusiasts now have the capability to know how many calories they’ve burned from their activity. AptoGraph uses the industry standard MET calculation formula. And given the GPS data captured during the activity which provides distance, time and speed, together with the person’s weight (in kilograms or pounds), will get an accurate calorie burned value," said Young Park, VP of Business Development and Sales. "Because AptoGraph is a Web-based software tool, users can use their mobile device or PC/Laptop/Netbook’s browser to go online and upload their GPS data files to be plotted," he continued.

"Our customers that use DataTap and AptoGraph are sports enthusiast, geo-caching gamers, travelers, general interest persons, and commercial businesses," mentions Park. "AptoGraph’s calorie burn calculation using the industry standard MET formula even takes into consideration the change in altitude during a users cycling, running, hiking, or walking routes, including kayaking, which provides a more accurate calorie burn value for the given activity,” adds Park.
